Although someday I do hope we gay and lesbian couples in Washington will someday be able to get all that great marriage paperwork and to have the state call it marriage, the result of the elections this year has made me elated. Earlier this year, a law was passed making it illegal for GLBT people to be discriminated against for hiring, promotion, or benefits at a job. Now, the law has passed called Referendum 71 which gives domestic partnerships equal rights as heterosexual marriages. This is good for two communities: The first being gay and lesbian couples who have been together years and want to have these rights. And the second being that seniors 60 and over who might lose pension rights if they get married, will also have these rights. Way to go Washington!
